Overlook Film Festival

New Orleans, LA / May 30-June 2, 2019 / overlookfilmfest.com

The itinerant fest that began in two successive locations tied to Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining migrated this year to less snowy climes, albeit a city with an equally haunted history. “What separates Overlook from other genre festivals,” says a panelist, “is that it immerses you in the culture: ghost tours of historic cities, VR experiences, immersive games and theater productions, and themed parties. It’s very interactive. Where else can you join the Infinitely Dinner Society to enjoy locally grown food paired with a performance?” That is, if you can keep your meal down while watching a lineup of grisly fare that this year opened with Unfriended: Dark Web, closed with Hereditary, and boasted several world premieres in between.
