Cinepocalypse

Chicago, IL / June 2019 / musicboxtheatre.com

Dating back to 1929, Chicago’s Music Box Theatre has been a hot revival and art house for decades. In 2017, Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival, which had been terrorizing the city for a few years, morphed into Cinepocalypse and alighted at the Music Box. Directors Josh Goldbloom and Ryan Oestreich started off with a bang, showing more than 60 movies old and new and bringing in genre celebs like Larry Cohen, Barbara Crampton, and Jessica Harper. It returned in 2018 with nine world premieres amidst its jam-packed schedule, and appearances by the Chiodo Brothers, directors Ernest Dickerson and Stephen Hopkins. “Cinepocalypse has achieved more in its first two years than most festivals 10 times its size,” says a panelist. “A truly homegrown venture, it draws in solid crowds for premieres, and packs the house for its boisterous repertory screenings.”
