“The city of Zurich is ultra-cool in itself, and the team that runs the Zurich Film Festival is as cool as the other side of the pillow,” says a panelist. “It’s shot up fast as one of fall’s marquee festivals.” Tech and business collide and confound at each year’s annual Zurich Summit, which features keynote speeches and panels on the industry innovations of tomorrow, and makes a racket with its traditional charity tennis tournament. Also refreshingly unique: ZFF’s International Film Music Competition has thus far enjoyed a seven-year run, and in 2018 its celebrity jury was presided over by former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer and frequent composer for Nicolas Winding Refn, Cliff Martinez. Have you heard about the Flickers - Children's Hospitals International Film Festival (CHIFF)? This new and growing festival provides a free program of new and amazing short films to the patients of children's hospitals in the US and Canada (and soon Europe) and its the kids who vote on the award winners at each two week hospital event. CHIFF is part of the Rhode Island International Film Festival. CHIFF was recently endorsed by the US Surgeon General who said that great films are great medicine. How cool is that? How about calling it "Our reviewers 25 favorite festivals" -- for these are festivals that your jury has presumably been to and likes -- and that's fine. To call it the world's 25 coolest is a wee bit presumptuous, no?
Only 5 from the 25 are not in the USA and Crystal Palace International Film Festival (cpiff.co.uk) which is actually known as the UK's coolest festival is not even mentioned!
