American Black Film Festival

June 2019 / Miami, FL / abff.com

“You’ll be hard-pressed to find a sexier location than Miami Beach, especially in June,” says a panelist of American Black Film Festival’s tropical digs. (Naturally, moviemakers in Magic City for ABFF in 2018 raged at DJ sets in all-white attire, and at the fest’s closing night “It’s So Miami” bash on Ocean Drive.) A who’s who of Black entertainers and moviemakers gather at ABFF to celebrate film and television, and one of the things that differentiates the fest from others is that “it also caters to actors, with panels run by top-tier casting directors teaching thespians how to audition and navigate their career,” notes a panelist. Talks by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther) and master classes on “Becoming a Showrunner” and  “Film Financing” round out this well-rounded five-day fest.
