Every festival should “treat its moviemakers really well,” but does every fest ask a moviemaker what film inspired them, and then screen that film on 35mm? That’s a cut above the rest, and precisely what Olympia Film Fest in Washington state did for one panelist, showing a print of the 1999 cult horror hit Ravenous. “The audiences are real movie lovers. When I was on a panel one of the people in the crowd recognized me from my programming job in another city. Their new Director of Programming, Rob Patrick, is going to build this fest, so it’s one to keep an eye on,” adds a panelist. We certainly will.

Have you heard about the Flickers - Children's Hospitals International Film Festival (CHIFF)? This new and growing festival provides a free program of new and amazing short films to the patients of children's hospitals in the US and Canada (and soon Europe) and its the kids who vote on the award winners at each two week hospital event. CHIFF is part of the Rhode Island International Film Festival. CHIFF was recently endorsed by the US Surgeon General who said that great films are great medicine. How cool is that? How about calling it "Our reviewers 25 favorite festivals" -- for these are festivals that your jury has presumably been to and likes -- and that's fine. To call it the world's 25 coolest is a wee bit presumptuous, no?
Only 5 from the 25 are not in the USA and Crystal Palace International Film Festival (cpiff.co.uk) which is actually known as the UK's coolest festival is not even mentioned!
