Provincetown International Film Festival

June 14-16, 2019 / Provincetown, MA / provincetownfilm.org/festival

Located on the tip of Cape Cod via a three hour ferry ride from Boston lies Provincetown, a “quaint, New England-y village” as one panelist describes it. The town is known, thanks to the census, as the gayest town per capita in the United States. Increasingly, P-Town, as its known to residents and long-time tourists, is also becoming lauded for its annual film festival. The Provincetown International Film Festival does, of course, showcase the upcoming avant-garde in queer cinema, as well as pay tribute to the work of forebears (last year Donna Deitch’s legendary Desert Hearts was screened). But each year, programmers knit together a dynamic group of films, queer or otherwise, shorts and features, that all contain the voices of some of the most voiceless in our country. PIFF just wrapped its 20th installment, attracting a 10,000-plus crowd of cinephiles, moviemakers, and big shot distributors Here Media and HBO.

  • Have you heard about the Flickers - Children's Hospitals International Film Festival (CHIFF)? This new and growing festival provides a free program of new and amazing short films to the patients of children's hospitals in the US and Canada (and soon Europe) and its the kids who vote on the award winners at each two week hospital event. CHIFF is part of the Rhode Island International Film Festival. CHIFF was recently endorsed by the US Surgeon General who said that great films are great medicine. How cool is that? You can find CHIFF on Facebook and Twitter using @FlickersCHIFF.

  • How about calling it "Our reviewers 25 favorite festivals" -- for these are festivals that your jury has presumably been to and likes -- and that's fine. To call it the world's 25 coolest is a wee bit presumptuous, no?

    • Only 5 from the 25 are not in the USA and Crystal Palace International Film Festival (cpiff.co.uk) which is actually known as the UK's coolest festival is not even mentioned!

  • CiNEWORX is proud to Sponsor and Partner with SFF for 5 years running providing Digital Content (DCPS) for the Fest! Congrats SFF for making it 3 years running as one of the top 25 COOLEST FILM FESTIVALS to attend.
