“I Am a God” by Kanye West

Shults: With this track there’s a drastic tone change because of all songs, that’s a song that literally he’d blast in his truck at that moment. There’s something just really sad and really powerful to me about “I Am a God” coming on after you’ve just overpowered your father for the first moment in your life. It’s mounting this tragedy and this propulsion. All these tracks from the Fuck Buttons to Amy Winehouse to “I Am a God” serve as propulsion and to mount tension.
