Shults: Amy Winehouse comes in before Tyler fights with his mom, after Alexa and Taylor’s characters have this beautiful moment in the bathroom. It’s a song that could really be at a school dance, and also it’s just a beautiful song. Right away I love that dichotomy of having this beautiful feeling, but also this melancholy. If you look at Alexa in that song, she’s sad, she misses Tyler, because they love each other deeply even though they’re tearing each other down.
