Number 12: ‘The Chicken Roaster’
Much of the humor of “The Chicken Roaster” comes from Kramer and Jerry swapping apartments, and in turn personalities.
The eighth season of Seinfeld is the one Larry David didn’t work on, and it got quite silly without him. After all, this episode is about a Kenny Rogers Roasters chicken restaurant (a real former chain) with an ominous red light that consumed Kramer’s apartment.
A friend of Jerry’s works there, so he agrees to switch apartments with Kramer to stop Kramer from fighting to shut the restaurant down. (“Bad chicken! Mess you up!”)
Kramer starts to deliver deadpan quips, Jerry starts talking to Bob Sacamano… and it’s all delightful but probably impenetrable to a Seinfeld newbie. But still one of the best Seinfeld episodes.
