The Conversation (1974)

The trailer for The Conversation. Paramount Pictures.

We promise there are some movies not from 1974 on this list, but what a year. Between 1972’s The Godfather and 1974’s The Godfather Part II (which are not on Netflix, sorry) the great Francis Ford Coppola also managed to make another masterpiece, The Conversation.

In the film, Gene Hackman plays a meticulous, privacy obsessed security expert who is enlisted by a mysterious go-between (Harrison Ford) to surveil a young couple, Mark (Frederic Forrest) and Ann (Cindy Williams, above).

As he eavesdrops on their walk through San Francisco’s Union Square, he realizes he may have stumbled into a very dangerous situation.
