Charley Varick (1973)
Director Don Siegel’s followup to the incredibly influential Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick stars Walter Mathau as a crop duster and ex-stunt pilot who knows a thing or too about explosives. He and his crew (which includes his wife, Nadine, played by Jacqueline Scott) set out to rob a bank — and succeed! But at a very terrible cost.
Then things can worse: When a news report says the robbers made off with less than $2,000 — far less than they actually did — Varick realizes that he’s hit a mob bank, and that the mob will never let him get away with it.
The film also stars the transfixing Joe Don Baker as the mob killer Molly. And Quentin Tarantino has called it “magnificent.”
