The Coffee Incident

Once, when union chief Jimmy Hoffa (played by Al Pacino in The Irishman) went in for a negotiation session with management, Sheeran says he tried to give Hoffa an unfair advantage.

He says in I Heard You Paint Houses that he hired college students to use all the public toilets at the hotel where the two sides were meeting. “Then I put laxatives in one of the coffee urns,” he says. “Those of us on the union’s team… took our coffee from the other urn.”

He describes management as “running around the hotel looking for a toilet that wasn’t being used. … it was much easier to negotiate against a smaller group.”
