Torso (1973)
Sometimes considered the first slasher film, this influential Italian giallo follows a sadistic killer who carries out “lust murders” on a series of beautiful college women with a red and black scarf. The murderer is eventually revealed as a psycho misogynist who describes his victims as “dolls made out of flesh and blood.”
The mix of sex and violence — especially for the era — was understandable upsetting for many viewers. It may not be the most defensible of horror movies, but its influence is undeniable.
