Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games (2012)

Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, Lionsgate

Katniss Everdeen became a hero the moment she volunteered as tribute to save her little sister, Primrose, from being drafted into the Hunger Games.

She’s obviously incredible with a bow-and-arrow, but she really proves her loyalty to her friends at the end of the first movie when she offers to poison herself in order to let her fellow companion from District 12, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), become the winner of the Games after Seneca Crane revokes the rule that there can be two co-victors.

Lucky for them, the rule about two victors gets changed back, and they both become the winners of the first hunger games.
