The Writers Lab

With Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman supporting The Writers Lab, it’s already raised the bar in its five-year existence by presenting the kind of female voice sparingly-heard in Hollywood fare.

Produced by New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), The Writers Lab selects a dozen talented women over the age of 40 to go on a retreat with their feature script. They take part in panels, peer discussions, and one-to-one meetings with luminaries including Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Robin Swicord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Memoirs of a Geisha) and Pulitzer nominee and award-winning screenwriter Theresa Rebeck (NYPD Blue, Trouble).

Participants have gone on to secure writing assignments, college professorships, and production deals with award-winning directors, as well as awards including The Academy Nicholl Fellowship, which Vigil Chime won with her Lab script Bring Back Girl.

NYWIFT Board President Simone Pero says women’s voices are “vital. Women over 40 years have the life experience, proven survival strategies, and an unparalleled drive to accomplish. I am thrilled that NYWIFT’s Writers Lab focuses on the work of mature women who are worthy of creative investment.”

When Wakefield writer-director Robin Swicord (C) isn’t shooting her own films, she’s taking one-on-one meetings with the working women writers chosen for mentorship by The Writers Lab

DEADLINE: March
FEE: $55
PRIZES: Script retreat. All entrants receive a webinar with Academy Award-winning producer Lisa Cortes (Precious, The Woodsman)

I have two screenplays I'm working on right now...I feel that NETFLIX, FOX SEARCHLIGHT, and AMAZON STUDIOS, are my best platforms...for now...Any advice, help, support, are greatly appreciated! :D
