How about Francis Ford Coppola casting his revered eyes over your script? If that’s an offer you can’t refuse, the Godfather of modern cinema’s film production company runs a screenplay contest that accepts features, TV pilots, and short stories. Each script is read by professional readers with Coppola, who has an Original Screenplay Oscar under his accolade-packed belt, choosing the grand-prize winner from 10 finalists.
It’s been going for more than 15 years and while no feedback is given, the winner and nine finalists, along with semi- and quarter-finalists, are proudly listed on the Zoetrope website and gain unparalleled industry exposure.
The winner receives $5,000 and the top 10 are considered for representation by Hollywood bigwig agencies such as William Morris Endeavor, CAA, and The Gersh Agency. The top 10 scripts are put in front of the likes of Samuel Goldwyn Films, Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, Lionsgate, and Working Title.
DEADLINES: August to September
FEES: $35-$50
PRIZES: $5,000 for the winner. The winner and top nine finalists have opportunities for representation and their scripts being optioned and developed by the best in the business.
