The biggest lesson that I learned was how things seem different but they are not too different in the actual locations. We shot our film in a lot of the areas were the riots actually took place. I felt some of those neighborhoods have been gentrified and changed, but some haven’t. That was a big eye-opening experience. Also, artistically, one of the biggest influences for this film was La Haine, and that was black-and-white. When you shoot in black-and-white you really focus more on the relationships and the people rather than the flashy colors and color palette.

Seems like these guys are farther along in the process than all other attempts. As an independent contractor myself, this is kind of interesting. I have no idea what the actual laws around independent contract work are, despite doing this for over 10 years ?
