The 10 Best Thor Actors, From Matt Damon to Natalie Portman

9. Jeff Goldblum (The Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok

 

Several moments in Thor: Ragnarok immediately signal to the audience that Taika Waititi is about to amp up the fun: the needle drop of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” the moment when Thor runs into his “friend from work” The Hulk, and of course when Oscar-nominee Jeff Goldblum makes a “what’s he doing here?” appearance as the sadistic Grandmaster.

Goldblum’s history of wily roles — he’s especially great as a sleazy lawyer in Deep Cover — lets the audience know right away that the Grandmaster will be a dangerous foe, always thinking several moves ahead. Goldblum is the rare actor who stars in blockbusters (Independence Day, Jurassic Park) that increase rather than detract from his screen persona as both vulnerable and intellectual.
