The Painted Bird (Spring 2020)
The Painted Bird inspired mass walkouts during its festival run this past fall because of the Holocaust drama’s unflinching depictions of mutilation, child rape, and other atrocities. At least everyone agreed on one thing about the film: the beautiful 35mm black-and-white CinemaScope cinematography by Vladimír Smutný.
