Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson in The Volunteers (1985)

Starting off strong with one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples, Tom Hanks met Rita Wilson for the first time on the set of the popular ABC sitcom Bosom Buddies in 1981. Hanks starred as Buffy opposite Peter Scolari as Henry — two working New York City men who decide to disguise themselves as women in order to get cheap rent in a women’s only building. But Wilson only guest starred for one episode, and at the time, Hanks was still married to his first wife, Samantha Lewes.

They acted again together in The Volunteers in 1985, though, and after Hanks’ divorce in 1987, he and Wilson started dating and got married the following year. Wilson and Hanks’ Bosom Buddies co-star Scolari would act together again in another popular television series, Girls, in 2012. Hanks and Wilson have two children: Chet and Truman.
