Marriage Story: Charlie Punches a Wall
Perhaps the most memorable — and memeable — argument scene in recent film history is in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story. In the middle of a contentious divorce, Charlie (Adam Driver) and Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) hurl devastating insults at each other. When Nicole laments that she can’t believe she will have to know Charlie forever, Charlie punches a wall. Then he tells her that he often hopes she’ll die. It’s a real knock-down drag-out fight (metaphorically) that will likely go down in cinema history.
