Taxi Driver: We’re not going to spend a lot of time on this, because the parallels are so obvious and intentional. Taxi Driver takes place in 1975 and Joker takes place soon after in 1981. (We know this from the movies shown on the marquees in both films). They both take place in urban hellscapes, and follow a rangy, unstable loner with a gun who becomes fixated on a politician.
