On May 8, 1920, Hollywood’s most influential graphic designer, Saul Bass, was born.

Over the course of four decades, Bass designed some of the most iconic sequences in films by directors Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese and many others.

From his hypnotic work in Vertigo (1958) to the instantly memorable images of Anatomy of a Murder (1959), Bass’ aesthetic put an indelible stamp on the look and feel of 20th-century American cinema. We celebrate his birthday by inviting you to test your knowledge of his work in this quiz, featuring sequences (some very slightly modified by us) from 10 different classic movies. MM
