Monica Zanetti

Who: Screenwriter and actress behind features Skin Deep (2014) and Amy’s Baby (in development); also series Young Politicians and short “On Hold for Taylor

What are you working on right now?

I’m currently working on a comedy web series that I wrote about a rural radio station. I’m also writing a TV pilot and a film. I like to be really busy! I’ve also been doing work at a large TV and film development company called Essential Media as an assistant on larger-scale projects.

How did you break in or get your start in screenwriting?

I definitely forced my way in! Skin Deep was the first feature film I wrote and I’d never even stepped foot on a film set before. I was really lucky to have a friend in Rosie, our producer, who believed in my script enough to help me drive it forward.

What’s the hardest scene or project you’ve ever had to write?

The TV pilot I’m currently working on is based on true and very tragic events, so it’s been a major learning curve for me on getting balance right of creating a series that engages people and respects people’s lives.

What would be your advice to aspiring screenwriters?

Hire an accountant from day one.
