The English Patient (1996)

Ah, another passionate love affair that ends tragically. This one’s set in World War II.

Based on the 1992 novel by Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient stars Ralph Fiennes as a badly burned patient who cannot remember his identity. His nurse, played by Juliet Binoche, tends to him in a bombed-out monastery.

While he’s recovering, the patient begins to remember his former life, in which he fell in love with a woman named Katharine. The problem is, Katharine is married. We won’t spoil too much, but don’t expect them to live happily ever after.
