Malik ‘Pfife Dawg’ Taylor

Pfife Dawg in Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

The Tribe Called Quest rapper was born November 20, 1970 and died March 22, 2016, at the age of just 45.

Friends with ATCQ partner Q-Tip since the age of two, the self-proclaimed “Five Foot Assassin” (he was actually three inches taller) delivered some of the greatest rhymes and hooks of his generation with a mix of bravado and self-deprecating humor. He also made contributions to film with his roles in Who’s the Man, The Rugrats Movie and the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest.

The sing-song positivity of Quest’s “Can I Kick It” has also made it a crucial part of children’s films including Tom & Jerry to the new TMNT: Mutant Mayhem.

Soon after reuniting with Q-Tip for a new A Tribe Called Quest album, Taylor died at age 45 from complications of diabetes.
