90 percent of Compliance is confined to a fast food restaurant, but Craig Zobel’s moral quandary of a film feels anything but inert. Compliance also offers American filmgoers something American filmgoers don’t often get: an American film exploring an ethically gray area. Zero Dark Thirty might be instigating a heated discussion concerning this nation’s stance on torture, but Compliancereminds us how susceptible we all are to the will of authority figures.
