Challenging our preconceived notions of evil, affection, and parenting; Talal Derki earth-shattering documentary provides incredible access into the daily preoccupations of a fighter for terrorist organization Al-Nusra Front, who also happens to be a devoted father to three young boys. Pretending to be a sympathizer, Derki spent over tows years capturing tender moments between the jihadist and his children, as well as the process by which they become desensitized to the horrors and entered the path to become terrorists at a tender age. “Shocking” doesn’t even begin to describe the experience of watching this morally complex piece of non-fiction.
