Diamantino

Directing duo Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt unleashed their whimsical, Portuguese-language, vision at Cannes earlier this year and have been mystifying festival audiences since then. Centered on a washed-up soccer player— the eponymous protagonist—who embarks on a wild quest to regain his magic touch; this stylized tale navigates surreal territory while tackling serious political and social issues. Diamantino’s amusing imagery and charming lead (played by Carloto Cotta) are the perfect vehicles to entertain while cheekily commenting on our deranged world.
