His Childhood Hero Was Hercules Actor Reg Park

Young Arnold Schwarzenegger’s dreams of becoming a bodybuilder and an actor were born the day he saw Reg Park play the role of Hercules at the movie theater in the 1960s. When he saw Park’s muscular physique, he decided that he wanted to be just like him.

“This guy is my idol. He was kind of like my blue point to where I want to go in life,” Schwarzenegger says.

He found Reg Park’s training program in an American muscle magazine and decided that he, too, would start waking up at 5 a.m. and training multiple times throughout the day.

“I have to do that,” he said. 

And he did.
