Birds of Prey is full of Tarantino-esque jumps through time, and Hodson said 1993’s True Romance, which Tarantino wrote but didn’t direct, would also likely be in both her and Robbie’s Top 5.
She also said that for all their subversive qualities, both True Romance and Trainspotting have some very traditional qualities.
“No one dares to aspire towards Tarantino because it’s too lofty a goal,” she told us. “But both of those I think are influential because… we knew we wanted to tell an unusual, ensemble, non-linear story, and both of those movies have this non-linear ensemble kind of very bold, anarchic-feeling approach to storytelling. And yet both of those movies have a very classic three-act structure.”
