Cathy Yan says the 2011 comedy, starring and co-written by Kristen Wiig, helped set the tone for the unlikely gang assembled by Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).
“I love how unfiltered the female camaraderie is, and the humor, and the motley crew of women where you don’t necessarily say, “Ah, they’re just perfect for each other,'” Yan explained.
Things will come full circle later this year, when Wiig joins the DC Universe in Wonder Woman 1984.
