As we were filming, we wanted to capture a lot of real life moments happening around us, so we were constantly breaking off to shoot places and scenes that were unique, sometimes grabbing actors along the way. For example, we wanted to shoot Vivian biking everywhere, so we just hopped in a car one night and went out the window with the camera in her real neighborhood. At one point, we saw a taco truck on the side of the road and decided impromptu to go and shoot there. It was important for Los Angeles to be a character, because so much of being an artist is how we relate to our surroundings. It can be a challenge to find new ways to show your city, especially with how much L.A. has been filmed. But if you go a little out of your comfort zone, little pockets of life appear.
