Award-winning auteur Werner Herzog will personally be judging a moviemaking contest organized by Shooting People, in association with Revolver Entertainment and the Barbican theatre in London. The contest, Encounters with Herzog, invites moviemakers to submit a short film that documents the relationship between man and nature. The film can be a self-contained film, or an excerpt from a larger production. Documentary and narrative films are both permitted, as are live-action and animated films. The winning film will be shown prior to a screening of Herzog’s Encounters at the End of the World on September 27th, 2009 at the Barbican.

Herzog is a director renowned for his spectacular films about how man and nature interact; Encounters at the End of the World is a documentary film about survival in Antarctica. The film will be released on DVD by Revolver Entertainment on August 31st, 2009. The Barbican will be honoring the work of the director by playing Herzog’s work as part of their Directorspective series from September 12th to September 27th, 2009.
