directed by Michael Mann
R; 140 minutes

This exciting film is based on the last few years in the life of public enemy number one: Bank robber extraordinaire John Dillinger (Johnny Depp). Under the direction of J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) successfully caught and killed Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) and Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham), but he failed time after time to catch Dillinger until that fateful night outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago. The movie follows the elusive antics of Dillinger and his gang as they rob a bank in one minute and forty seconds flat and escape from prison on several occasions. The public was enchanted with Dillinger’s “Robin Hood” tactics, but Dillinger was enchanted with Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard), a hat check girl with whom he fell in love. Excellent performances and camera work make this a must-see for all lovers of gangster films.

DVD Extras: Commentary with director Michael Mann; “Larger Than Life: Adversaries” featurette (two-disc includes five other featurettes).
