On March 10, 1928, Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) came home to an empty house. Her nine year-old son Walter was missing. Five months later, Los Angeles Police Captain J.J. Jones (Jeffrey Donovan), with a large crowd that included the press watching, reunited Christine with whom he said was her son. One look told her differently. This kid was not Walter. But the police department, known for its ineptitude and graft during this era, insisted that it was. Meanwhile, the pastor of a large church, Reverend Gustav Briegleb (John Malkovich) continued his scathing criticism of the police department via the pulpit and his radio program. When Mrs. Collins’ complaints got her nowhere but the psychiatric ward of the hospital, Briegleb stepped in to help. And when an unrelated case led Detective Ybarra (Michael Kelly) to a deserted chicken farm, the truth raised its ugly head. This true story is told with fine performances and excellent direction by Clint Eastwood. Amy Ryan is featured.
DVD Extras: Featurettes (“Partners in Crime: Eastwood and Jolie” and “The Common Thread: Jolie Becomes Christine Collins”).
