With Valentine’s Day now officially behind us, rom-com The Vow (weekend gross $23.6 million, total gross $85.5 million), the winner of last weekend’s box office race, slipped to the number two spot, with last week’s runner-up Safe House (weekend gross $23.9 million, total gross $78.2 million) taking its place.
New release Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance roared into number three with a weekend gross of $22 million, while Journey 2: The Mysterious Island claimed spot number four with its weekend gross of $20 million (total gross $53.2 million). Rounding out the top five was new release This Means War, which pulled in $17.5 million over the long weekend; taking into account its special Valentine’s Day screenings last Tuesday, the film has grossed $19.1 million so far.
Also out in wide release over the weekend was The Secret World of Arrietty, which earned $6.3 million in slightly more than 1,500 theaters. Out in limited release were Thin Ice ($190,800), Deep in the Heart ($47,700), Undefeated ($30,875) and Bullhead ($23,500).
Out next weekend—Oscar weekend, for those who have managed to forget—will be wide releases Act of Valor, Gone, Good Deeds and Wanderlust. Limited releases will include The Fairy, Around June, The Forgiveness of Blood and Tomorrow, When the War Began. MM
