In this weekend’s battle of the horror franchise sequels, The Final Destination emerged victorious, taking the number one spot with more than $28 million. Its competition—Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2—could only scare up a third place spot, earning $17 million in its debut weekend.

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds dropped one spot to become second in command of this weekend’s box office. Its $20 million weekend brings the film’s total two-week take to $73,760,000. District 9 continues to attract audiences; the Peter Jackson-produced thriller landed in the number four spot with $10,700,000 and could easily reach the $100 million mark within the week.

The top five was rounded out by G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, earning $8 million for a total gross (so far) of more than $132 million.
