Princess Diana and the whole royal family are having a ’90s fashion moment in the first look photos from Season 5 of The Crown, which arrives on Netflix on Nov. 9.
This season, which, of course, takes place in the 1990s, Elizabeth Debicki replaces Emma Corrin as Princess Diana in her 30s. Dominic West replaces Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, and Imelda Staunton takes over from Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth.
Jonathan Pryce plays Prince Philip this season, replacing Tobias Menzies, and Lesley Manville plays Princess Margaret, taking over for Helena Bonham Carter. Claudia Harrison replaces Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, and Olivia Williams replaces Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles.
Of course, all of this is customary for the beloved royal family drama, since actors age out of their roles when time jumps happen every two seasons. The current iteration will be The Crown’s third and final set of actors, bringing the show to completion for Season 5 and Season 6.
In the above photo, Debicki sports a gorgeous, light blue halter dress, also complete with sparkly beading that catches the light perfectly, as Princess Diana in the above photo. One can only hope that Debicki will get to wear some version of the famous Revenge Dress — a gorgeous, black, form-fitting, off-the-shoulder dress that Diana wore in 1994 not long after splitting from Princes Charles amid his cheating scandal with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Here, Debicki also looks very ’90s in the first look photo above, wearing a brightly-printed, yellow swimsuit and small sunnies and lounging in a wood-paneled boat next to West as Princes Charles, Timothee Sambor as Prince Williams, and Teddy Hawley as Prince Harry.
Imelda Staunton and Jonathan Pryce look regal in plaid in the above photo as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The Queen looks especially ’90s in her teal dress — do I detect a hint of shoulder padding? — complete with sparkly beading and a tie in the front. I have to say, it all matches very well with her crown.
Williams and West look cozy in their zipped-and-buttoned Barbour jackets as Charles and Camilla in the above photo, smiling and laughing as they watch what appears to be either some holiday lights or a fireworks show — we’ll have to wait until the new debuts out to find out what they’re actually looking at. I have to support their fashion choices here, considering they would work just as well today. Barbour jackets really do stand the test of time.
Above, Lesley Manville broods as Princess Margaret, lounging in a nightgown set. That turquoise and brown floral print is so large and in charge, it has to be the ’90s — and she’s got the hair to match.
Finally, Jonny Lee Miller plays Prince Minister John Major this season. It’s the glasses that really scream ’90s in the above photo. He’s looking very dapper in a double-breasted suit and very coiffed hair.
