Directors Guild of America president Taylor Hackford announced the five nominees for the 2009 DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film. Of the five directors, three are first-time nominees.

“The DGA Award is especially meaningful to directors because it is decided solely by their peers—the men and women who have been in the same trenches and know exactly what goes into the crafting of a unique motion picture,” says Hackford.

The winner will be announced at the 62nd annual DGA Awards dinner at Los Angeles’ Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel on Saturday, January 30, 2010.

And the nominees are…

Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker

James Cameron for Avatar

Lee Daniels for Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire

Jason Reitman for Up In The Air

Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds
