directed by J.J. Abrams
PG-13; 126 minutes
It was George Kirk who gave up his own life to save 800 others, including that of his wife and newborn son, James. It was Vulcan Ambassador Sarek (Ben Cross) who married a human (Winona Ryder) and fathered Spock. Young Jimmy was a wild hellion while the youthful Spock was a determined and bright student who worked hard at repressing human emotion. And when James (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) came together at the Starfleet Academy under the command of Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood), their differences made for immediate animosity. Off on what they thought was a routine rescue mission, their clash of opinions reached its height when it was determined that they were in fact victims of an attack by Romulan leader Nero (Eric Bana), out for revenge. How Kirk and Spock became close allies is told in this fascinating adventure, with fine supporting performances by Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Leonard Nimoy.

DVD Extras: Two-disc includes commentary by Abrams; deleted scenes; featurettes (“To Boldly Go,” “Casting,” “Aliens,” “Score”); gag reel.
