New releases Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time failed to grab the top spot at the box office this past weekend; too bad for Carrie and friends. Sex and the City 2 came in at number two with $32.1 million, and Prince of Persia took the number three spot with $30.1 million. However, it was Shrek Forever After that maintained the top spot for the second week in a row, with a Memorial Day weekend gross of $43.3 million and a total gross of $133 million. Spot number four went to the still-strongIron Man 2 (weekend gross $16 million, total gross $274.6 million) and spot five to Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood (weekend gross $10.3 million, total gross $83 million).

Other new releases were the Jean-Pierre Jeunet film Micmacs ($48,717) and George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead ($43,000).

Out next weekend are Killers, Get Him to the Greek, Splice and the most anticipated movie in the last 10 years, Marmaduke. Out in limited release are Ondine, Rajneeti, Convention, Finding Bliss, Speed Dating and the intriguingly-titled Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead.
