Cillian Murphy Oppenheimer Teaser
Cillian Murphy in teaser for Oppenheimer

The first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is out, and it stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man whose work on the Manhattan Project lead to the creation of the atomic bomb.

Though the Universal Pictures historical drama won’t come out until July 21, 2023, it’s already quite a buzzy title. Nolan wrote and directed the feature, which is adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

“The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment,” Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty, says in the trailer.

“How can this man who saw so much be so blind?” another voice says in the teaser, which features a few black and white shots of Murphy as Oppenheimer and a lot of footage of flames.

“The force from which the sun draws its power has been loosed,” the voice continues. “…The most important man who ever lived. The man who moved the Earth.”

Oppenheimer also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, Jr., Josh Hartnett as Ernest Lawrence, Gustaf Skarsgård as Hans Bethe, Michael Angarano as Robert Serber, and many more prominent names including
Jason Clarke (Pet Sematary), Casey Affleck (Manchester By the Sea), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy), Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems), Florence Pugh (Midsommar), Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Dane DeHaan (Lisey’s Story), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), David Krumholtz (The Santa Clause), Michael Angarano (Pen15) and Kenneth Branagh (Belfast).
