Gone With the Wind (1939)
Based on Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel Gone with the Wind, this Best Picture winner, produced by David O. Selznick and directed by Victor Fleming, stars Vivien Leigh as plantation lady Scarlett O’Hara and Clarke Gable as Rhett Butler, the dashing object of her desire.
We have to agree that this film could never be made today. Technicolor’s three-color process, which resulted in the highly saturated and vibrant colors of the film, has fallen into disuse, so Gone With the Wind would have to be shot digitally or on 70mm IMAX or something and it wouldn’t be quite the same.
Are we serious? Yes, Technicolor is, alas, no longer in vogue. But we still love watching old Technicolor classics on TCM.
