The Film Comment Selects and Young Friends of Film Series at Lincoln Center will be presenting Celina Murga’s latest work, Una Semana Solos (A Week Alone), from March 2 – 4. The award-winning Argentinean moviemakers is expected to be introduced by Martin Scorsese, who selected her as his protégé through the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.

After being screened around the world, critics have already praised Murga for the extraordinary performances she elicits from her young cast, and for her subtle exploration of the class issues perpetuated by the characters’ gated environments.

“Everywhere, people were very intrigued by the kind of gated communities that are very common in Latin-American upper classes,” says Murga.

By being allowed to spend seven weeks with the legendary Scorsese on the set of his latest film, Shutter Island, Murga was given a rare opportunity that certainly will greatly influence her work.

“I think that having him as a mentor in this process is a big advantage because he knows very well the nature of human violence and he helps me a lot with this approach.”

Scorsese is expected to introduce Murga’s current film at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at Walter Reade Theater, when Murga will also participate in a Q&A following the screening.
