Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were actually “mortified” by those leaked Barbie set photos; That time Ana de Armas brought Andrew Dominik to tears with her performance while shooting Blonde; James Bond producers address fan-favorite Idris Elba saying he doesn’t want to play 007. All in today’s Movie News Rundown.

That Time Ana de Armas Brought Blonde Director to Tears: Andrew Dominik told us that a literal, actual teardrop fell on his monitor while he was shooting a certain scene towards the beginning of Blonde. Ana de Armas’ performance was just that good. “It was sort of like a high diver coming up to the edge of a board and looking at how far the pool is below her,” Dominik told me during our interview for our fall cover story — see our freshly revealed cover here. “Then she came out, she does the take that’s in the film, and it was incredible. I actually remember a teardrop of mine actually hit the monitor when she did it. She was amazing.” Read that whole anecdote in an excerpt from the cover story here.

Bond Producers Address the Idris Elba of It All: James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson told Variety that they understand why Idris Elba says he doesn’t want to be 007. “We love Idris,” said Broccoli. “The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” she added. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].” Plus, Wilson notes: “And he was in his early 30s at the time!” Elba is currently 50, and if the casting process won’t even hit full swing for a few years, the prospect of a Bond commitment now would find him still playing the role in his 60s.

Who Else Is In the Running?: It sounds like it’s anyone’s game at this point, but some of the internet’s favorite Bond prospects are prize-winning martial artist Tom Hardy, Regé-Jean Page, Richard Madden, Henry Golding, Henry Cavill, and even Paul Mescal.

May I Editorialize?: I know I’m not the first to say this because of his amazing performance as a secret agent in The Gray Man, but as for me? I would simply love to see Ryan Gosling play Bond.

Margot Robbie ‘Mortified’: The Barbie star told Jimmy Fallon during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show that she and her co-star Gosling, who plays the Ken to her Barbie, were “mortified” when photos of them in their brightly-colored costumes were leaked from set. “I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie told Fallon, according to IndieWire. “We look like we’re like laughing and having fun, but dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

But Wait, There’s More: Did she realize those set photos would end up breaking the internet, Fallon asked? “No!” Robbie said. “I mean, I knew that we had some exteriors to shoot in L.A. I knew, OK, once you were doing exteriors, you’re gonna get papped. There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to stand out, because, you know, we stand out a little bit in those outfits. So I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching.”

Oscars Going Global?: Here’s an interesting debate for today — will the Oscars go for big, old-school studio filmmaking like Top Gun: Maverick, or will it go more international in the future, like Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, Roma, and Drive My Car? IndieWire‘s Eric Kohn spoke all about that topic with Academy CEO Bill Kramer.

I’ll Leave You With This: Now for something completely different.
