Postcards from Colombia: The Making of Josef Wladyka’s Manos Sucias

7. Production

One of the best things about the community workshops was that we met talented local people who were really passionate about filmmaking. On the first day of workshops, local Nilson Murillo (pictured) told us he had been shooting wedding videos and teaching himself everything he could about videography for years. He became our camera department intern for the duration of the shoot and moved up to full camera assistant. When we wrapped, he confided that he had been praying to God for the chance to work on a professional movie for years. It was an absolute pleasure working and collaborating with all the local people in Buenaventura.
