A Room With a View (1985)

This heavily romantic British period drama stars Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy Honeychurch and Julian Sands as her lover, George Emerson. It’s based on E.M. Forster’s 1908 novel of the same name.

Set in 1907 Edwardian England, Lucy meets and falls in love with George while vacationing in Italy. But when she returns home, she must choose between marrying the snobbish Cecil Vyse (Daniel Day Lewis) in order to improve her family’s social standing, or being with the man she truly loves.

There’s a lot of tension between George and Lucy — and Lewis’ portrayal of Cecil adds some comic relief.
