Let’s start with a classic.

What’s sexier than the enemies to lovers trope? Nobody does it better than Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, and we’d argue that Joe Wright’s 2005 movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel is one of the best period dramas of recent years.

Elizabeth is expected to marry soon in order to save her family’s inheritance from falling into the wrong hands should her father die. When she meets the mysterious and misunderstood Mr. Darcy, she at first finds him insufferable — until she doesn’t. What makes this love story so enticing is the slow burn.
