It was announced this past week that Warner Bros. Pictures will partner with Lucasfilm Ltd. to release a new, feature-length animated Star Wars film to theaters on August 15, 2008. That’s right, this summer will see a brand new entry in the Star Wars canon released on the big screen. The computer-animated film, titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will preclude a television series of the same name set to premiere this fall on Cartoon Network, with subsequent airings on TNT. Both the film and the television program will feature recognizable faces from the Star Wars universe including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the evil General Grevious. With Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, on which George Lucas is a credited writer and executive producer, set for release on May 22, this summer is shaping up to be quite a fruitful season at the Skywalker Ranch.
